Basement Finishing Across the Salt Lake Valley

From century-old bungalows in Salt Lake City to brand-new walkouts in Draper, the valley's basements span every era of Utah construction, and we work in all of them.

A south-valley neighbor, not a long-distance contractor

Hunting Tanner Construction is based in northwest Utah County, which the map will tell you is a different county. The drive will tell you otherwise: we reach Herriman, Riverton, Bluffdale, and Draper faster than much of our home county. The Salt Lake Valley is core service area for us, with the same walkthroughs, weekly site presence, and owner involvement every HTC project gets.

What changes across the valley is the housing itself. Salt Lake County holds Utah's deepest range of residential eras, and basement work here is era-matched work: honest evaluation and correction in the older stock, clean full finishes in the newer. Each city below has its own page explaining what its neighborhoods typically hold and how we approach them.

The Valley, City by City

Salt Lake County service areas

Every page below is written for its city's actual housing, not copy-pasted with the name swapped.

We serve the valley south of the SLC airport. North of there, we'll point you to closer options.

What valley homeowners build downstairs

The east bench remodels its mid-century ramblers. The canyon corridor builds gear rooms and guest suites. The west valley adds bedrooms and second bathrooms where families need them most. The south end finishes its newer construction to match polished main floors. Different projects, same spine: a six-step process with written scopes, permits pulled, and changes documented before work proceeds.

Not sure which category your basement fits? That's what the consultation is for, and it starts with a conversation rather than a sales pitch.

Valley Questions

Salt Lake County FAQs

You're a Utah County company. Why should Salt Lake Valley homeowners call you?

Geography, mostly. Our base in northwest Utah County sits at the valley's south gate: Herriman, Riverton, and Bluffdale are closer to us than half of our own county. Add an owner personally involved in every project and Gary's thirty years of general contracting, and the county line stops mattering pretty quickly.

Which parts of Salt Lake County do you serve?

The valley: from Salt Lake City, Millcreek, and Holladay through Murray, Midvale, Taylorsville, Kearns, Magna, and West Valley City, down through West Jordan, South Jordan, Sandy, Cottonwood Heights, Draper, Riverton, Bluffdale, and Herriman. We don't serve areas north of the SLC airport.

Salt Lake homes run older than Utah County's. Does that change basement work?

Substantially, and we plan for it. Much of the valley's housing is post-war and mid-century, which means real evaluation before finishes: ceiling heights, wiring vintage, moisture history, and what previous decades hid behind paneling. Newer south-valley neighborhoods follow the modern full-finish playbook instead. Every city page here explains what its housing era means for your project.

Do you handle permits with each city separately?

Yes. Every Salt Lake County city runs its own building department, and permit coordination is built into our project schedules wherever the address is. Inspections at framing, rough mechanical, and completion are part of the plan, not an interruption to it.

What does a typical Salt Lake Valley project look like?

The spread is wide: mid-century rambler remodels in Millcreek, ski-gear-and-guest setups near the canyons, value-focused bedroom additions in the west valley, and new-build finishes in Daybreak and Bluffdale. What's constant is the process: a walkthrough, a written scope, an itemized proposal, and organized construction with one accountable owner.
